Pebble Beach, California Golf & Resort History.
Samuel Finley Brown Morse acquired the Del Monte Forest and the land around the famed Hotel Del Monte resort and golf course in the early 1900s, and opened Pebble Beach Golf Links and The Lodge at Pebble Beach in 1919. Recognizing the stunning natural beauty of the windswept bluffs and the cypress groves along this stretch of Monterey coastline, Morse worked to preserve hundreds of acres of forest and coastline along the 17-Mile Drive. In 1966, SpyGlass Hill Golf Course made its debut, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., as part of Morse's dream to have a string of golf courses surrounding Del Monte Forest. Poppy Hills opened in 1986, and in 1987 the Links at Spanish Bay was born. [Top]
